The Cost of Living Allowances (COLAs) promised to government employees would be paid in the near future, as confirmed by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

The Commission has said that the credits would be applied to accounts fairly shortly.

Benjamin Arthur, chief executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, recently confirmed to JoyNews that payments would begin shortly.

We have no doubt that the administration will carry it through. So there shouldn’t be any uncertainty. At the first opportunity. We appreciate the value of your time and are working on the timetable so that the government can make the precise date public in the next couple of weeks.

As an afterthought, he said, “modalities” had been completed and “organized labour” would need to be informed.

After some back and forth over the public sector employees’ demand for a 20% COLA, the government finally caved on Thursday, July 14.

The government and the unions’ top brass came to an agreement on a 15 percent COLA, to be implemented back to July 1, 2022.

15 percent of your regular salary will be allocated as a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA). That the date of payment of the cost-of-living adjustment would be July 1, 2022,” Employment and Labour Relations Minister Ignatius Baffuor Awuah declared on Thursday.

Minister of National Security Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Education Yaw Adutwum, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Ignatius Baffler Awuah, and Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Attah all met and agreed on the 15 percent COLA.
